 In this world, cherry blossoms remain in full bloom for nearly two months. Both graduation ceremonies and entrance ceremonies are held beneath a sky filled with softly fluttering cherry blossom petals.

This world is the setting of the classic otome game 『Cherry Blossom Oath ―The Story of Us That You and I Weave―』

I was once an ordinary high school girl living in Japan, until one day I lost my life in a traffic accident. Even now, whenever I walk along busy roads or hear the blare of car horns, my body still stiffens slightly.

I believed my life had ended suddenly and without warning, but when I regained consciousness, I found that I had been reincarnated in this world.

What is more, I had become Nagase Mari, the childhood friend of the protagonist, Ichinose Maki.

Nagase Mari is a supporting character who offers advice to Ichinose Maki at key moments throughout the game. From what I remember of the story, she spends a relatively large amount of time at Maki’s side.

Ever since I recovered my memories at the age of six, I have dragged Maki along with me as we challenged ourselves in all sorts of activities. Studying, sports, play, lessons, anything and everything. With the sole objective of raising her status values, I devoted most of my time to Maki.

As a result, even now, before the game has officially begun, Maki’s status values already exceed 300. In RPG terms, this is a level at which she could easily defeat even a mid-game final boss.

Of course, since this is an otome game, it is not a story where the world can be saved through sheer numerical strength. The cap itself was probably set relatively low, around 500, compared to other games.

Even so, precisely because of that, having such values at the very start of the game is abnormally high. In fact, at this point, all appearance requirements for capture targets that have status-based conditions have already been cleared.

……There are also concerns that arise from raising status values too much.

I will confirm those one by one as things progress. Now then, today is the high school entrance ceremony, and standing beside me is Maki, dressed in her brand-new uniform.

The two of us pass through the school gate together. The name of the academy we will be attending from now on is Private Sakuragaoka Academy.

The grand school building, which I had seen countless times within the game, now towers before me as a tangible reality.

This is it.

At last, the game begins.

From here on, I will support Maki with everything I have, guide her toward a capture target, and reach a happy ending.

That is the role assigned to me in this world, and the meaning of my existence.
