Volume 6 Afterwords

Thank you for picking up Volume 6 of The Story of Buying a Classmate Once a Week.

Once again, this volume arrives accompanied by Miyagi and Sendai, now university students, as beautifully illustrated by U35-sensei.

Several months have passed since the release of Volume 5, which concluded on the rather outrageous note of Miyagi running away from home. I hope you'll continue to enjoy the same wonderfully frustrating slow-burn relationship between the two of them.

This time, the interlude is told from the perspective of “Utsunomiya Maika.” Accordingly, the side stories are presented in an unconventional format, alternating between Miyagi's and Sendai's perspectives on “that morning.” Although both the interlude and side stories differ from the usual structure, I hope you'll enjoy witnessing the aftermath of Volume 5 through these different viewpoints.

Now then, I'd like to share a few things that happened before the release of Volume 6.

First of all, in This Light Novel is Amazing! 2025, The Story of Buying a Classmate Once a Week ranked fourteenth in the bunko category. In the female character category, Sendai placed nineteenth, while Miyagi came in twentieth.

To everyone who supported us, thank you so much!

I'd also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to U35-sensei, who always brings Miyagi and Sendai to life so beautifully, my editor, and everyone else involved in making this series possible.

I'm especially happy that both Miyagi and Sendai ranked in the female character category this time. Seeing their names listed together on the page filled me with a warm, fuzzy feeling. Another wonderful surprise was that the series placed thirteenth in this year's overall female rankings. Since I'd always hoped this story would be enjoyed by readers of every age and gender, that recognition truly lifted my spirits.

And then...

Our series also took part in the yuri-themed exhibition fair, “Yuri Exhibition.”

They even created exclusive merchandise for the event, and U35-sensei's newly drawn illustration was unbelievably adorable! This time, Sendai is holding a black cat (not Miyagi), while a calico cat that seems to have a liking to Miyagi makes an appearance, and the whole scene couldn't help but make me smile. Unlike Miyagi, who's rather like a stray cat, the black cat is completely devoted to Sendai. That's the highlight! Thank you so much for another wonderful illustration, U35-sensei (noraneko U35-sensei).

On top of that, I'll never forget that The Story of Buying a Classmate Once a Week was featured in the bonus “Fantasia Heroine Calendar Book,” included with the January 2025 issue of Dragon Magazine. I never imagined there would come a day when our series would become part of a calendar.

So many things happened before Volume 6 was released, and each one surprised me more than the last.

In that sense, 2024 turned out to be another eventful year, just like 2023.

I wonder what kind of year 2025 will be...

I hope it'll be a wonderful one!

No, it has to be! The first volume of The Story of Buying a Classmate Once a Week manga will also be released soon, so it's sure to be a year filled with wonderful things.
